Program Overview
Japan Martial Arts Association of New York, through its martial arts school called the Kazokukan Dojo, serves dozens of families of every race, religion and nationality in the Sunset Park Brooklyn community. The school's main goal is in building leadership skills that will enhance each student's life as it is in developing their martial arts skills.
For adults, health and self-defense classes are our main focus so to strengthen families and community ties while improving martial arts skills. Other programs we are planning in the near future include scholarships and tuition assistance.
Though our programs are based upon the philosophy and practice of traditional karate, we also embrace and promote other forms of martial arts, self-defense education, and a healthy lifestyle.
The philosophies of our program are to develope and help our youth with conflict resolution skills that lead to a reduction in youth violence and bullying which intern creates more independence and competancy while inspiring students to higher aspirations.

Its important to understand, that karate though a serious martial art, is often looked on as a sport which provides an effective context for the exchange of ideas and cultures. We do support and develop tournament athletes at every level as a means to promote peace and understanding through local, national and international competition. We are also committed to maintaining a diverse and multi-ethnic student body and making our programs accessible to all, regardless of socioeconomic status.
